The latest addition to the Ironman 70.3 Series offers up crystal-clear water, a bike route along the route of the ancient Mayans, and a run that has been billed the "most beautiful half-marathon" in the World. We have a lot to look forward to in Cancún September 17, 2006!

How’s this for an alluring race? The Cancún Ironman 70.3 Triathlon features:
A swim in the crystal clear, calm, turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean. The swim consists of two laps around a triangular course to complete 1.2 mi (1.9km). There are buoy markings every 100 meters, and big banana-like buoys at the turning points. No wetsuits will be required as the water temperature sits at 26°C (79°F). The maximum water depth is 30 feet, and the visibility is so good, 100%, that you’ll feel as if you were snorkeling!
The two-lap bike course follows along the route of the ancient Mayans, along the new four-lane highway between Cancun and Merida. The road conditions are perfect, so you can just sit in an aero position and concentrate on your breathing and pedaling! You will feel embraced by the Mayan jungle on both sides -- just listen to the exotic wildlife as you pedal your way through the 56 mile (90km) course.
The run course can simply be called “the most beautiful half marathon in the world.” Run over Kukulcan Boulevard, the strip of land between the Caribbean Sea and the beautiful Nichupte Lagoon, the course offers dazzling views over the paths of the spectacular golf course. Then you go back in history while running next to the thousand year old Mayan ruins and pyramids know as “El Rey” (The King). The two-lap 13.1 mile (21.1 km) course is completely flat with distance markings every one km and every mile.
The transition area will be located right next to the start and finish areas, so friends and family can cheer as you pass by the spectator area five times. The transition area is in the parking lot of the Wet n' Wild park in Cancun, so the spectators can spend a day full of activity and fun, too.
If the incredible course isn’t enough attraction, how about the fact that the Cancun Ironman 70.3 will award 100 slots to participate in the first ever Ironman World Championship 70.3, held in Florida, November, 2006.
Race date: September 17, 2006.
