A professional field consisting of some of the sport's top contenders will vie for the title including defending champion and current Ironman World Champion, Chrissie Wellington, along with Chris Lieto, who placed second at the 2009 Ford Ironman World Championship and Andy Potts, an Olympian and 2007 Ironman 70.3 World Champion. About the Race

The new Ironman 70.3 Kansas Triathlon will take place in Lawrence, Kansas just west of Kansas City.

The swim will be held in Clinton Lake. Water temperatures are expected to be 74-77 F. Following the swim, athletes will ride 56 miles through the rolling terrain of southwest Douglas County. The bike course covers a challenging course known to local cyclists as the "Iron-Cross." The "Iron-Cross" consists of the intersecting county roads of 1023 and 458. The bike course will offer long, winding, flat stretches matched with steep, challenging hills.

Due to severe weather conditions at the 2008 Ironman 70.3 Kansas race, organizers were forced to shorten the run course for many of the competitors. Some athletes in the race were not able to complete the full 13.1 mile run distance. While all competitors do have run times included in the results, some of those times will not be for a full half-marathon run.
