World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) announces its Ironman 70.3 U.S. Pro Championship, an event open to all professional and age group athletes within the sport. For the first time, pros will have the opportunity to earn a coveted title, while competing for a prize purse of $75,000. Houston's Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, the largest not-for-profit healthcare provider in Texas, will serve as title sponsor and official sports medicine provider for the inaugural event. World Triathlon Corporation Continues Ironman 70.3 Growth

World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) continues its expansion of the Ironman 70.3 Series, with the announcement of two additions to its 2010 event series. The former Lone Star Half and Mooseman Half Triathlons boast new names as official Ironman 70.3 events. The races, now known as Ironman 70.3 Lone Star and Ironman 70.3 Mooseman, will continue to be produced by Race Director, Keith Jordan and Endorfun Sports and become part of a series that includes nearly 40 races worldwide. Each Ironman 70.3 qualifies athletes for the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 taking place each November in Clearwater, Fla. Read the story »



About the Race

Spectacular Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas.

Located on Historic Galveston Island and nestled among 242 acres of lush tropical gardens, the Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center's contemporary architectural design and natural beauty is complimented by views of three spectacular pyramids that are home to a living rainforest, ride film theater, educational exhibits and one of the largest aquariums in the United States. The complex also features an IMAX 3D Theater, 4D Special FX Theater, the Colonel Paddlewheel Boat and Palm Beach- a private freshwater white sand beach complete with soothing lagoons.

1.2 mile saltwater swim, in protected Offats Bayou. No big surf here! The swim will begin at Moody Gardens' beautiful white sand Palm Beach, and finish next to the majestic Colonel Paddlewheel boat.. There will be lifeguard and boat support provided by Galveston Beach Patrol. Average water temperature is 72 degrees F. Wetsuits will be allowed.

56 mile spectacular, scenic one and a half loop course along the Gulf Coast of Texas. Head out of Moody Gardens and hammer along the Seawall and hug the Texas coastline, heading south to the end of Galveston Island. You'll cross over the San Luis Pass onto the mainland, through beautiful undeveloped coastline. The course is flat and fast! Nary a speed bump to be found. Watch out for the wind!

13.1 mile Run is a FLAT course meandering through Moody Gardens, it's tropical gardens and towering glass pyramids, along Offats Bayou and Palm Beach.There will aid stations every mile. Live entertainment featuring great bands, cheerleaders and more will be keeping your endorphins kicking in!

Watch as Andy Potts, a highly decorated athlete with short-course success, sprinted to a first place 3:42:33 finish, while Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae broke the course record and claimed victory finishing at 4:07:25. In addition to the competitive professional field, more than 1,400 other triathletes ranging from 19 to 82 years old crossed the finish line, including Mark Rothbaum, manager of country music legend Willie Nelson, and Stacey Junio, who celebrated her recent weight loss in preparation for the event.  $34.95  Available now.

Athletes will experience historic Galveston Island, located on the Texas gulf coast. Situated among 242 lush, tropical acres, the Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa & Convention Center will play host to the event. With amenities including a living rainforest, an IMAX 3D Theater, aquarium and four-diamond full-service resort, there is something for the entire family. The swim will be in saltwater in the protected waters of the Offats Bayou, while the bike course will lead athletes on a flat and scenic ride along the coastline. Athletes will also see a flat run course, as it meanders through tropical gardens and towering glass pyramids.
