This weekend's PowerBar Ironman 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona features 2,250 athletes from 47 different nations. Beside a breathtaking view of the Swiss Alps, the event showcases one of the best pro fields assembled for a European 70.3 distance race, including Ironman 70.3 world champion Michael Raelert (GER) and former Ford Ironman World Championship runner-up Cameron Brown (NZL).
Other professionals with victory prospects are three-time titleholder Ronnie Schildknecht (SUI), Mathias Hecht (SUI), and short and middle distance specialist Alessandro Degasperi from Italy.
The women’s field lining up on Sunday is as promising as the men’s. Former Swiss cyclist Karin Thürig challenges many time Ironman 70.3 winner Caroline Steffen (SUI). In addition to the Swiss favorites, the Ironman 70.3 race also features Australia‘s Rebecca Preston, a two-time winner of Ironman Zurich Switzerland. With 35,000 spectators and 1,530 volunteers along the course the race promises to be an exciting one.
