The 2011 Avia Vineman Ironman 70.3 triathlon looks to be a "champions battle" of sorts as world champions, Ironman champions and former Vineman champions headline the field. Picking a winner will be difficult with a world class pro field racing for $50,000 in prize money and precious ranking points for the Ford Ironman and Marine Corps Ironman World Championship 70.3 races. Outside of the world championship events, this will be the deepest (55 athletes in total) and strongest pro field seen in North America this year. Only Kieran Doe was able to put together a bike split within 3:30 of Chris Lieto's at today's Ironman 70.3 Vineman event (the next best in the men's field was almost nine minutes behind the American), which allowed last year's Kona runner-up to enjoy a win at the prestigious Vineman event by over six minutes. Mirinda Carfrae was every bit as dominant on the run as she posted a run split almost 6:30 faster than eventual runner-up Leanda Cave to take the women's title. Read the story »
July 18, 2010 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Vineman Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in Sonoma County, California. The Vineman Ironman 70.3 consists of a 1.2 mile swim in the Russian River, a 56 mile bike ride that will finishes at Windsor High School, and finishes with a 13.1 run that takes the athletes to the La Crema Winery and back. Athletes will be competing for 50 qualifying spots to the Foster Grant Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater, Florida in November. Read the story »
Ironman World Champion Chris McCormack will join the ranks of many other pros that have raced the Vineman Ironman 70.3.
