Professional triathlete, Jordan Rapp, sets his bar pretty high. His standard? Not just winning Ironman events, but winning with a philanthropic spirit. Jordan, whose Ironman victories include 2009 Ironman Arizona and 2009 and 2011 Ironman Canada, leaves more than a victorious imprint on the courses he races; he leaves a victorious imprint in communities in rural Zambia through his annual Rappstar Charity Challenge for World Bicycle Relief (WBR), an organization whose mission is to provide access to independence and livelihood through the power of bicycles. Here at the Ford Ironman World Championship there are over 40 athletes racing who will be raising money for a number of different causes. The Ironman Foundation's program "Your Journey, Your Cause" allows athletes to fundraise for a charity they are passionate about. Since it's inception in 2003 the Ironman Foundation has given back more than $10 million to causes around the globe. The Ironman Foundation is asking for help for one of the most supportive communities in the Ironman family. The aftermath of Hurricane Irene has devastated Essex County, the site of Ironman Lake Placid, inflicting the greatest recorded damage to the area since the mid-19th century. Every single one of the 18 villages in the county have been affected. In addition, 14 miles of the Ironman Lake Placid bike course and four miles of road on the run course are no longer passable. World Triathlon Corporation, owner of the global Ironman Triathlon Series, announces its contribution to the oil spill relief effort in the Gulf of Mexico. The Ironman Foundation, the company's charitable arm, has earmarked a total of $100,000 to support the efforts and its first donation of $25,000 will be made to Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, an organization that has been instrumental in assisting those affected by the oil spill in the state of Louisiana. World Triathlon Corporation, owners of the Ironman brand, embarks on the 2006 eBay auction, the fourth of its kind, designed to benefit various charitable organizations. Over the last three years, the Ironman Foundation has raised more than $1 million for the construction of the first YMCA facility in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Read the story »
World Triathlon Corporation, owners and organizers of the Ford Ironman World Championship announces its support of the Daniel Robert Sayre Memorial Foundation.
