Former MLB Star Byrnes Amongst IMF Competitors


Former Major League Baseball star one of many raising money through the IMFAmong the many athletes competing at Ford Ironman Arizona this weekend will be former Major League Baseball star Eric Byrnes, who will be toeing the line this weekend to help race money for the Pat Tillman foundation. The Ironman Foundation (IMF) has provided over $900,000 in funding to non-profit organizations acround the world in 2011. The Ironman Foundation is asking for help for one of the most supportive communities in the Ironman family. The aftermath of Hurricane Irene has devastated Essex County, the site of Ironman Lake Placid, inflicting the greatest recorded damage to the area since the mid-19th century. Every single one of the 18 villages in the county have been affected. In addition, 14 miles of the Ironman Lake Placid bike course and four miles of road on the run course are no longer passable. Ironman Contributes $100,000 to Oil Spill Relief Effort

World Triathlon Corporation, owner of the global Ironman Triathlon Series, announces its contribution to the oil spill relief effort in the Gulf of Mexico. The Ironman Foundation, the company's charitable arm, has earmarked a total of $100,000 to support the efforts and its first donation of $25,000 will be made to Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, an organization that has been instrumental in assisting those affected by the oil spill in the state of Louisiana.
